The setting in the program options is overridden by the setting for the
folder (if they differ); the setting for the folder is overridden by the
setting for the individual site (if they differ).
To set the Startup Transfer Mode for a site or folder: 1 Do one of the following: In the Classic interface, from the “Connection” dialog box,
select the site or the folder, and click the Advanced
Properties button. You see the Session tab.
In the Explorer interface, select the site or folder, select Site
Properties from the File menu, and click the Session tab.
2 Under Startup Transfer Mode, select one of the following: ASCII. Used for text file transferring. Binary. Binary mode is used for transferring files that are not text
(e.g., executable programs, word processing documents,
spreadsheets, databases, graphics files, and sound files).
L8. (Classic interface only) Used for VMS non-text file
transferring.
Auto Detect. When selected, all files are transferred in binary
mode unless the extension is listed on the Extensions tab.
Extensions can be up to ten characters long and can contain
periods. (These are not DOS extensions!) If you expect the
extension to match on a period, you must enter the period.
In the Classic interface, you can also set the Startup Transfer Mode
as the default for all sites:
1 Select Options from the View menu. 2 Click the Session (cont'd) tab. 3 Set the Startup Transfer Mode as described above. 4 (Optional) Click Set as Default.
